MESSAGE FROM THE APT PRESIDENT

As this school year comes to a close, the current board members will be moving on.  We’d like to thank all of the Swallow Union staff for the incredible job they do and the dedication they provide to our children.  The support we have received over the years from the families, parents, staff, and community has been outstanding and made the APT the success that it is today!  Over the past four years, as President, I have had the pleasure of working along side a team of terrific board members, APT members, teachers & staff, parents and community members.  Our philosophy has been to raise funds for enrichment programs and give it directly back to the students that same year.  The past four years, we, as a school, were able to raise approximately $80,000.  That money has gone directly back to the students and staff!  It has been a very rewarding experience for each of us.  On behalf of my fellow board members, Marie Sebastyn, Leslie Willson, and Sue Whitney, we ask you to welcome the new board members with your support and involvement!  The S/U experience is a one-of-a-kind!  Thanks for all the memories and we wish everyone the best of luck in the 2009/2010 school year!

As the 2008/2009 school year comes to a close, we would like to thank the following volunteers who took a lead role as a Coordinator for one or more events this past year:  Jackies Estes, Kristen Irby, Marie Sebastyn, Helen Dzwonek, Cheryl Scammel, Karen Johnson, Carol Towle, Lynn DeNyse, Rosie Pellizzari, Julie McNamara, Sandy Freiter, Lisa Ansara, Janice Bushnell, and Alison Bailey.  All of the events that we sponsor could not have been accomplished without these folks!  Thank you to all of the parents, families, and community members who volunteered their time and services in support of the APT efforts throughout the year.  Your continued support is so greatly appreciated.   Our sincere gratitude goes to the support and dedication of the APT Teacher Representatives, Jayne Girourad and Joyce Bertrand.

During this past school year, our fundraising efforts were the most successful year Swallow Union has ever had.  We were able to raise approximately $27,000 and have funded, to date, approximately $24,000.  The students and staff at Swallow Union directly benefit from your fundraising efforts.  In a financial time where budgets are lean and being cut, it is even more important to be able to raise funds to support the enrichment programs, events, and learning tools that allow our staff to achieve their goals with our students, making Swallow Union what it is today!  We look forward to your continued support next year!

The annual Staff Appreciation Luncheon was held on May 7th and was another success due to the outstanding support we receive each year from our families.  Thanks to Jackie Estes, our Hospitality Coordinator, who continues to do an outstanding job each year!

Lowell Spinners and American Defenders of NH tickets are on-sale through June 9th.  It’s a great summer event to meet up with friends over the summer.  Thank you to Alison Bailey, our Ticket Coordinator for organizing this event for us.  Please contact her directly with any questions.

Many thanks to the following Fun Friday hosts:  Melanie Ketelhohn, Nicole Flynn, Sue Wynn, Parents of Mrs. Rozzi’s class, Erin Purananda, Nicole deMoulpied, Julie McNamara, Cheryl Scammel, Heather Eldredge, Carmelina Johnson, Joseline Young, Quan Zhou, Heidi Miller, and Gina Oxenhandler.  Thank you to Rosie Pellizzari, our Coordinator, for making sure each Friday our staff had something special to look forward to.

The Box Tops program came to a close on May 15th and will kick off again in September.  Please keep cutting those Box Top labels over the summer.  The Target Rewards program runs year round and Swallow Union directly benefits from your purchasing power.  This year we have received over $1,500 from these two programs, and were able to achieve our goal, which will allow us to purchase new drapes for the stage!

Many thanks to the families who supported our annual Beautification drive.  We’d also like to thank everyone that has donated their time in getting the grounds looking great.  We always need volunteers, over the summer, to help keep the grounds weed-free.  Anyone that can stop by, at any time, during the summer, would be greatly appreciated.  We’d also like to thank Sue Scalf, who has offered to be the Beautification Coordinator.  Please continue your support by keeping our school looking great on the outside!

Save the date….September 25th, the APT will be sponsoring its third annual Back to School Picnic.  We are still in need of many volunteers!  It is critical that we get volunteers to take on the lead Coordinator roles for the Picnic and the Back to School Raffle, our ONE major fundraiser.  Please consider helping out next year.  You will be greatly rewarded by the smiles on the kids faces when they are running around that evening, having a great time!

We will be voting in new board members at our last meeting on June 2nd at 7:30 p.m.  Please consider joining us as we wrap up the year, bid farewell to the current board members, and welcome the new!

We wish everyone a fabulous summer!

Leslie Blodgett, APT President
