| A Message From Mr. Myerson, Principal
When I was in school this was always my favorite time of the year, and I am sure it is likewise for our students. The number of days is dwindling down and summer plans are probably on their minds, which is only natural. I am very proud of how our staff is able to balance academics and end-of –the-year activities. The last four weeks are always incredibly busy as we are concluding our assessments and looking forward to next year. We have been working on class placement during the past two weeks, and I want to assure you that the staff has put a great deal of time and effort into making balanced classrooms. Your child will have the opportunity to meet their new teacher and classmates on the last day of school.
Thank you to our School Council members, APT, and the many parent volunteers, who have been instrumental in our success this past year. The School Council, which includes parents and school personnel, has met monthly to work on the school improvement plan, budget, and many other school initiatives. It has been a pleasure working with this group of people and hearing different perspectives of what is needed to continue the excellence at Swallow Union. As always, our APT did a fantastic job. The Welcome Back Picnic and Silent Auction were the only fundraisers this year. They were successful enough to fund many of our enrichment activities and help defray the cost of our field trips. In addition, the APT helped fund our fourth grade play and continued to support out literacy program by purchasing non-fiction books for our primary grades. Our APT board will look different next year, as all the members are moving on. It will be sad to see them go because their work this past three years has been extraordinary. However, I am anxious to welcome the new APT board. I am confident that they will continue the rich tradition of supporting our students and staff. Lastly, I want to recognize our parent volunteers for their hard work and dedication to our school. You’re certainly an integral part of our success.
In closing, I am very proud of the students and staff for all their hard work this year. I also want to commend all of our new students and families who joined us from Prescott and Florence Roche. The transition went extremely well and many new friendships were made this year. I want to thank our fourth grade parents for your support during your child’s time at Swallow Union. It has been wonderful watching them grow up since their arrival, and I am confident they will continue to thrive academically and socially at the middle school.
Have a safe and fun-filled summer!
Peter Myerson, Principal
