* Lyme Awareness and Prevention Week - June 8th through the 15th!

Groton and Dunstable are hot-zones for ticks!  Because of that, we’re also a hot-zone for the diseases that tick carry, Lyme Disease.  Did you know that you don’t need a bulls-eye rash to still have Lyme disease?  Or that deer ticks are prevalent all year long, even in the winter? Or that Lyme disease can have serious long-term health issues if not caught early?  There’s much to learn about this disease, so during Lyme Awareness and Prevention Week there will be numerous opportunities to become more informed, so stayed tuned to your local papers for a full schedule of events happening around town that week.  There are a couple of planned activities that you might want to put on your calendar right away!  These include a LYME-AID fair, featuring a bake sale, balloons, tick awareness information, lime-aid! This event will be held on the Middle school grounds June 10th.  from 11:30-3:00 pm and is a ½ day for our schools, bring the kids, all are welcome!  Also, a coffee meet and greet will be hosted by GDAY on June 9th at the Main Street café, 9:00 to 11:00 am.  Come meet the Nashoba Associated Board of Health and have a free coffee on GDAY while you learn more about prevention!  This is a very important health issue for our community and there’s much you can do to protect your families, come learn how!

*”Meet Your New Teacher” – will be on June 10, 2008 for all elementary students.  We will be providing buses to bring your child to the appropriate school.

*Message to Grade 4 Parents from Mr. Silverman - Middle School – “I look forward to having your child(ren) attend Groton-Dunstable Regional Middle School next September.  We will be holding our

Grade 4 Move Up Day on June 17th (Swallow Union and Prescott) and June 18 (Florence Roche).  On this day, your child will be coming to the middle school to meet some of our staff and faculty.

I would also like to inform you that the middle school will be reconfigured next school year.  Grades 5 & 6 will be housed in the South Building and Grades 7 & 8 will be housed in the North Building.  Some students will still need to change buildings for their Integrated Arts Classes (P.E., Art etc).  However, we will be minimizing the number of students who need to change buildings compared to this school year.

Have a wonderful summer!  Please do not hesitate to call the Middle School (978-448-6155) if you have any questions.”

*Great Penguin Give-Away – People keep asking what Ms. Lavin is going to do with all her penguins.  Well, as a memento for their years at Prescott, each child will be given something from her vast penguin collection.  It may be a stuffed animal, a mug, an ice cream scoop, a penguin sign, a puzzle, a book, or even a pin.  Thanks to the help of the PPO, each item in her collection will be numbered and children will be given a number at random.  On Monday, June 16th, the children will attend an assembly where the “Great Penguin Give-Away” will take place.

*Play – Kudos go out to the Prescott Players for an outstanding job in Tied to the Tracks.  Mrs. Martell & Mrs. Mitchell did a great job working with the cast.   The play was everything an elementary school play should be.  Thank you to those parents who gave of their time and effort to make this performance such a success.

*Thank You – to the parents who cooked and baked in recognition of Teacher Appreciation Week and the Senior Citizen Brunch.  The staff and school community value all that you do for them, and wish to express gratitude to all parents.   Thank you for the support, acknowledgement, and appreciation shown to us throughout the year.  Thank You!!

*Volunteer Breakfast – Our annual Volunteer Breakfast will be held on June 4th from 9:00 – 10:00 AM in the cafeteria. This is our way of thanking you for all you do, so please plan on attending!  We ask that you park in the parking lot of the Groton Inn.  They have graciously allowed us the use of their lot.  Please do not park at Moison’s or in front of the Natural Market.
