Grade 8 Washington DC Trip

The planning process for our annual trip to Washington D.C. is well under way.  Our trip has been approved for June 7 through June 10, 2010.  On November 5th, eighth grade parents are invited to meet with the trip coordinator, members of our staff, and Mr. Ron Cormier, CEO of Capital Tours, to learn about the trip.  This mandatory Parent Information Meeting will run from 6 to 7 pm in the Performing Arts Center.  Please note that there are opportunities for about 10 parents to join us as chaperones.  Chaperones will be directly responsible for 10 of the students in their tour group.  We have established a deadline of December 1 for registering your child for this trip if you might want to volunteer as a parent chaperone.  Volunteer forms will only be sent home after your child is registered for the trip.  A second deadline of Tuesday, February 2, 2010 has been set for turning in completed parent chaperone applications to the North Office.  We are especially in need of the volunteer work of two or more parent chaperones that are also registered nurses and carry a current Massachusetts RN license.

Information packets including registration materials will be distributed at the Parent Information Meeting on November 5.  Any students whose parents are not present will be given copies of information packets in their Friday Folders on November 13.  Any questions about the D.C. Trip can be addressed to Mr. Snodgrass, the DC Trip Coordinator.  Please note that if you make a decision to not have your child participate in the Washington D. C. Trip, we’d like to have you let us know.  We will be planning learning activities for students who are not on the trip here at school during that week.  Attendance at school is mandatory for those eighth grade students who are not on the trip.  Knowing which students and how many students are not going will help us plan engaging learning activities.  For information about financial assistance for the D. C. Trip, please either contact the trip coordinator or our building principal, Mr. Silverman.

I look forward to seeing you on November 5th.

Thank You.
Adam Snodgrass
DC Trip Coordinator
