April Update
By Mr. Russ (Russ Hoyt, Early Childhood Director)
Time for an April Update! Once again we have over 70 children registered for next year. This is wonderful as it means Boutwell is showing strong numbers for our start up next Fall. We have also had some interest in the onsite extended day option. Right now it looks like there may be enough folks to hold an onsite session here at Boutwell, but if not, Karen Tuomi the Director of the Peter Twomey Youth Center (PTYC) has assured me that there will be space there for any families that want or need a longer day for their children. There is a van that brings morning kids from PTYC for their afternoon session here; and brings kids that are here for the morning to the PTYC for a fun filled afternoon. I am also planning a Spring Boutwell Parent Night (aka Coffee with Mr. Russ) with the topic of food allergies along the lines of “How can we all work together to keep our children safe and healthy?” Keep an eye out for a flyer, but please save the date of Tuesday, April 8th from 6:00 to 7:30 PM and this will also be our evening Book Fair so you can join us that night for two special reasons.
This is an important SAFETY FIRST reminder notice. When your children are being brought to school it is imperative that you know that Staff is available at:
- 8:50 for 9:00 AM groups
- 12:20 for 12:30 PM groups
NOT BEFORE
When your children are being picked up it is imperative that you be on time and know that staff is available until:
- 11:30 for groups that end at 11:30 AM
- 3:00 for groups that end at 3:00 PM
There are two options for the beginning and end of your child’s school day at Boutwell:
DROP OFF / PICK UP – Back of building ONLY at the second door in the back of the building, you must remain with your vehicle (this has been an issue recently - please do not walk up to get the children or greet them as they come off the playground. It is okay to get out to buckle your children in after staff brings your child to you, but please do not leave your vehicle.)
BRING IN / BRING OUT – Front Door ONLY, parking for bring in and bring out is across the street at the driveway in front of the Legion Hall.
* Also please remember that the vans that bring children to Boutwell are School Buses and it is illegal and unsafe to pass a school bus when the lights are flashing.
Please remember that all of us working together is the key to safety. Thank you, in advance, for your cooperation with the beginning and end of your child’s day at Boutwell (each and everyday).
Classroom News!
By Mrs. Fay, Ms. Mollie Mrs. O’Neill, & Ms. Rossbach
We would like to thank the Groton Dunstable Education Foundation for providing grants for the Boutwell students to see Kevin McNamara and Drawbridge Puppet Theatre.
In addition to the wonderful indoor entertainment, we have been going outside to enjoy a variety of outdoor activities since the snow is beginning to melt.
In the beginning of April, we will be wrapping up our transportation theme. We will then move on to shapes and colors. When we return from April vacation, the children will be working on a Mother’s Day surprise. We will also be working to complete developmental checklists for each child. The checklists will be sent home on Thursday, April 17th and Friday, April 18th. Please review the checklists and if you have any questions, concerns or comments, please feel free to sign up for a conference. More information about conferences will follow soon.
Some other special activities in the month of April include: Spring Book Fair and the Nashua River Watershed Association. The NRWA will be at Boutwell on April 16th. The children who attend school on T-TH-F are invited to the 10:40 presentation.
Volunteers Needed
Help wanted with sorting and counting Box Tops, labels, and receipts. Please call Tina Livingston at 978-649-4255 for more information.
Food Allergy Support Group All meetings will be at the Middle School North Library at 7pm. For questions, please call Alison Bailey at 978-449-0121.
Food Allergy Awareness
Did you know that touching, inhaling or ingesting even the slightest amount peanut/nut is enough to trigger anaphylaxis in allergic individuals? That is why it is so important to read the labels on your children’s snacks.
Mrs. O’Neill, Ms. Rossbach, and Ms. Mollie’s rooms are peanut and nut-free.
Please do not send in a snack that:
- contains peanuts/nuts
- traces of peanuts/nuts
- is manufactured on equipment (or in a facility) that processes peanuts/nuts.
Thank you for helping to keep Boutwell safe for our students!
Monthly Lyme Disease Support Group
The Nashoba Valley region has one of the highest rates of Lyme disease in the country, and this group is the first in the area that will serve as a source of support for both sufferers and their caregivers. Donna is a strong advocate for individuals who have been affected by Lyme disease. Donna believes that as a community we need to become more involved in the Prevention and Awareness of Lyme Disease along with recognizing the signs and symptoms in order to reduce the long lasting effects it has, not only on the person affected, but the caregiver as well. The structure of the group will provide a nurturing environment where individuals will gain access to resources in the community in order to maintain their level of independence. The group will provide an environment where individuals can become mentors for each other, as well as scheduled lectures by professionals. When: The first Tuesday of every month (first meeting Feb. 5th) Registration/check-in time: 6:45 PM Presentation: 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM Location: Founders Room at Nashoba Valley Medical Center, 200 Groton Road, Ayer, MA 01432
Questions: Please R.S.V.P. Donna Castle by email at dcastlemom@yahoo.com to reserve your seat. Hosted by: Nashoba Valley Medical Center. |
